Japan 2022 - Day 6: Unazuki Onsen Town, Kurobe Gorge & Trolley Train

Introductions are hard, especially when writing them for every single blog post. Therefore, there will be none today. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

A clear and beautiful day! I am sure my travel companions are energised and raring to go!

Unfortunately it seems like my roommate had a little too much to drink last night, probably trying his best to forget that married woman again.. But fret not, for i wield the power of technology to ensure Sj is included in our adventures today.

Yoshinoya is one of the best breakfasts you can have in Japan, which is not saying much when the only other alternatives are fast food or konbinis.

Their pork rice bowl remains amazing, and the bukkake of spring onion will ensure that you have the breath of a 90 year old to start the day.

Not satisfied with taking a thousand different modes of transport the previous day, we kicked off our day trip with yet another train ride.

Then a quick transit through the tiny town of Shin-Kurobe, where it is known for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

It is however, a tranquil town reminiscent of Stardew Valley aka the perfect place for our resident farmer Vina.

It was also a surprisingly picturesque spot, at least when that guy in the background finally decides to move out of the way.

The only real thing of interest were a few statues of Jl’s slanted neck ex-colleague.

Another short train ride later and we arrived at Unazuki Onsen Town, the largest hot spring town in Toyama Prefecture.

The fountain right in front of the train station shoots hot, steaming natural mineral water straight from your mom's vagina. Ah 现在要玩妈妈 lah?

Hopped into the first confectionery we saw for some sweet treats because Japan’s desserts rarely disappoints.

I heard rumours of the Japanese having small penises but i didn't know their cheesecakes were miniature as well.

It was already November but for some reason the autumn foliage was still hazukashii and only showed us a nip slip preview.

Zzz ran into the same inconsiderate guy who still wouldn't get out of the shot.

Onwards to the highlight of the day: the Kurobe Gorge trolley train which looks super unsafe considering this is a country with 1,500 earthquakes a year.

But we quickly discovered that the scenery is worth the risk, with the train winding through tunnels and bridges to offer jaw dropping views of the gorge.

The windowless carriage we were on allows you to get amazing shots of the vista to flex on instagram… at the cost of our nipples almost freezing off from the chilling gusts of wind.

仿佛一幅画.

Happy faces all around knowing our next of kin are set for life from our insurance payout once this dodgy train derails 👍🏼

Snack time! I purchased a local specialty known as Masuzushi, partly due to being allured by its slick packaging.

Once i opened my Japanese ba zhang i um chio-ed a little. It turned out to be a massive square trout sushi which looked ridiculous and tasted similar to those cheap 50 cents salmon sushi from sushi express.

Lowkey regretting committing so hard to the joke because it’s 5am and i’m still cutting and pasting Sj's face everywhere..

Our train ride ends at Keyakidaira Station where we were able to stroll down to the river bed.

Appreciating the ASMR sounds of water flowing down all the way from Kurobe Dam where we were yesterday.

Not missing the opportunity to allow some of that fresh nature air into my underwear to remove any kuku bee.

Met a strange man time travelling from 2014 to push Reagan away yet again.

Back above, we prepared to cross the aptly named Okukane bridge because your initial thoughts will be “Ohfuckukanena why is this bridge so high?”

Walk till lanpa itchy itchy saikang smelly smelly, but happy to report that all of us made it and are still well alive apart from the aborted fetus.

Another point of interest here is the Man-Eating Rock, not to be confused with Vivian the Man-Eating Demon.

The rock ceiling looms menacingly above the passageway, giving it the illusion of swallowing pedestrians.

As per SOP, some solo shots for Reagan just in case…

Very triggered by the sight of bugs because one just broke our month long Project Zomboid save and i am beyond devastated.

Presenting the dreaded white note of death, but this time instead of a single restaurant, the entire valley was closed due to construction works. The sheer number of red X’es on the map made me fear that a torrent + ghost ship combo was coming our way.

I suspect that we had a quick lunch here but i don’t have any pictures to prove it, so please email Th (commander_tzehui@uob.com) for her confirmation since she is the only one present in the photo.

I can confirm however, that i found more masuzushi which everyone begged me not to purchase.

On that discouraging note, we admired the gorgeous gorge one last time before making the reverse journey back.

Opted for the indoor cabin this time round and our entire travelling party instantly k.o-ed as if we had hiked 10km when it was more like 1.

Upon returning to the onsen town, we took advantage of the public foot bath 因为我们喜欢 free 的.

Giving back to the generous townsfolk by boiling some pig trotter soup for their dinner.

Speaking of dinner, the real Sj finally rejoined us in Toyama at a popular izakaya. Since it was packed, we got divided into 2 groups and guess who got stuck with the smelly face pregnant lady again?

To our dismay, much of the menu was sold out and we were only able to order a handful of dishes due to communication issues.

Like this strange fish appetiser..

And this strange shellfish appetiser…

And whatever this crap was that you can find at a shitty cai fan stall.

The chicken nanban was our only saving grace here. Apparently, there is a godlike pork rice bowl that was also sold out because the last portion was ordered by the other table of fuckers whom i just soaked my feet with.

Feeling super imbalanced, we crossed the street to another izakaya out of pure spite.

This time we were armed with an ordering tablet in English and nothing on the menu was spared.

We ordered so many skewers that a mammoth rhino hybrid thingy almost blinked in and pushed us back to fountain.

While the grilled meats were passable, nothing was particularly outstanding apart from the chicken livers which were velvety and creamy.

More chicken wings, this time deboned and stuffed with filling.

I'm a simple man, i see mazesoba i order mazesoba.

Pregnant women can have weird cravings, so we ended up having some tau huay at an izakaya in Japan which was definitely not on my bingo card.

With the full to bursting trait, we returned to the hotel and washed it all down with a soy sauce flavoured cider purchased from Kurobe Gorge. Yes, you read that right and for those wondering it was as bad as you can imagine.

Remarkably, the cider managed to taste better than swallowing a cocktail of doTERRA™ essential oils, conjured up by Doctor Th who was attempting to cure my flu. I recovered instantly the next day, not because it worked, but because my body was terrified of her putting more of that shit inside me.

To show my deepest gratitude for her efforts, i accompanied Th and Jh to experience the wonderful world of ramen no.9.

Don’t you just love it when the flavour bomb of a ramen broth makes you feel like you were at Hiroshima? A 10/10 supper to round off our last night in Toyama.

With a tummy full of pork and essential oils, we returned to guard Sj from drinking alcohol so we wouldn't have to drag his corpse to *spoilers* Kawaguchiko. I'm so glad we did because all these photoshopping takes up time, precious time that can be used for playing Project Zomboid. Speaking of which...it's time.
