Japan 2022 - Day 7: Road to Kawaguchiko & BBQ in the Cold

Freedom. The capacity of a person to live without outside interference and restrictions. To be free is to eat wanton mee at 6am and go home to sleep as others are preparing for work. It is having supper at Changi airport terminal 3 basement after late night badminton sessions. It is going all the way until JB just to eat a massive plate of nasi kandar for lunch on a weekday. What does it actually mean to be truly free? Is a life without freedom truly living? Why didn't i buy bitcoin back in 2010? Such are the deep questions looping in my head as i squeeze in a packed mrt, on the way back to one-north for my first day of work.

Hopping back in time to 2022, it was yet another delightful day as we prepare to depart the coastal city of Toyama.

I was relieved to see that Sj was alive this time round or we would have had to FedEx him to Kawaguchiko.

Our hotel room was so tiny that i accidentally broke the Guinness World Record for the quickest room tour.

All ready to check out! Just one last look in the fridge and… oh fuck.

A 2 hour shinkansen ride awaits, but first we had to decide on our breakfast to dabao onboard.

The Mcdonald sluts prevailed and the choice was unanimous.

No complains from me because i get to savour the pork sausage mcmuffin once more.

Rare occasion of sitting beside happy faces who are not embroiled in relationship issues.

Good thing that we were still in the mask wearing era because the smelly face had transitioned into a rotten one while we were changing trains to Shinjuku.

But we won't allow our spirits to be dampened as we look forward to reuniting with Fuji san.

Kawaguchiko, where i first fully fell in love with Japan. Glad to see that the bus station remains largely unchanged since 2015.

The daunting rollercoaster track of Fuji-Q Highland was taunting us as we collected our rental car. You wait tomorrow we come back to conquer you.

Just as we finally arrived at our airbnb, Mount Fuji emerged to greet us.

Stopping weird people from their obsession with washing their clothes immediately upon check in, we revisited the wondrous It’s More supermarket.

It’s sooo big.. but this time let’s try to focus on getting food for the barbecue eh?

Sj giving me the expression as if i want to eat his ice cream but scold him single dog first. Successfully bought everything we needed and as a bonus, Ken and Jh got to taste some of the best non-sashimi grade raw scallops of their lives.

We returned to the airbnb where the food prep team was hard at work.

Bbqing overseas is fun because you have to get creative in finding stuff to grill rather than relying on your usual satays and otahs.

You also get amazing deals for local produce, such as this gorgeous box of wagyu beef for less than $20.

2022 Team Bacon’s skewers came out really well.

Compared to 2015 Team Yc and Kl's ridiculous creations in the CCB.

Oh how much i miss travelling with you retards.

Yc's reaper scythe skewer still makes me lol every time. Fucking cb zai nans.

Enough nostalgia. Love that everyone pitched in to help, including Shanelle who was standing close by and absorbing all the heat from the grill to prevent our food from overcooking.

Chill vibes, chill night. As in literally because it was 3 degrees outside but still better than sweating like a dog at East Coast Park.

A day in Japan cannot end without exploring a konbini so we headed out to the nearest Lawson while Th and Shanelle stayed at home to bond over dropped hair strands in the bathroom.

Bought some stuff for breakfast prep the next day, which is ezpz when you can have yummy, ready made egg mayo straight out of the package.

What’s a winter vacation without ice cream and slippers in the cold?

We ate and drank the night away, amidst the different kinds of tensions that were building. Gathering in our little tatami room was a nice ending to this relatively peaceful day, much needed to calm our hearts in anticipation of the high octane day we will be having tomorrow.

Nothing to complain about apart from the whirling sound of that fucking washing machine operating non-stop throughout the night. If only she cleaned out her vagina as thoroughly as she washed her laundry…
