Ho Chi Minh City 2022 - Day 4: Half Cup Coffees, Den Long & Back to Singapore

With Iran getting bombed and the entire world going to shit, here's hoping that i can finish my 2022 posts before world war 3. And after seeing Novita Lam get chastised for making puns about the countries involved, OMAN i guess the pain of having 400k followers instead of 10 blog readers ISRAEL. Now let's jump into the post, any further jokes KUWAIT.

The sun finally reappeared after yesterday's torrential rain, and as usual, i started off the day with a ca phe sua da. Apparently i am a glass half empty kind of person because i was pissed that my iced coffee came with 60% foam. With the sheer amount ice, you can actually finish it in a single mouthful. Paid only $3 but still feeling kind of scammed here.

For brunch, we visited Den Long, a direct translation of lantern in Chinese to try some authentic Vietnamese zi char. I know red lanterns in front of establishments usually spells sleazy business but we were willing to take the risk here for some good food.

We began with fried spring rolls that were inconsistently wrapped to say the least. I like that they cut one of them into half and decided it didn't look better and gave up on the rest.

Then came the grilled lemongrass chicken which was LOVELY.

Their charcoal grilled squid was great as well, a promising start to the meal.

Then it got weird with a crabmeat curry that tasted more like pumpkin soup.

We had soft shell crab smothered in salted egg yolk sauce.

Fried scallops that...were also smothered in salted egg yolk sauce.

Hey.. stop it... They went overboard with the salted egg sauce and all of our seafood ended up tasting like 流沙包.

Disappointed with my morning cup of foam, we clambered into a nice looking cafe nestled in an old apartment building.

Only to get another cup of foam. What is this coffee scam they are running here?? The macchiato and mousse thing were delicious though.

We could not leave Vietnam without having a second banh mi.

Actually make that 3 because the one from Hong Hoa was so shit, we went back to Huỳnh Hoa to dabao the GOAT to the airport. You can tell from our expressions who is sick of eating 19 meals in 4 days and who is still having the time of his life.

We depart Ho Chi Minh City refreshed, recharged and definitely a few kilos heavier. But i enjoyed yet another trip with my homies Kelly and Ally, pure chilling, zero sightseeing and lots of eating. Always a pleasure with you boys even though we didn't get to sleep on the same bed this time. What's next on my to-blog list then? Whatever it is, i won't be 婆婆 MUAR MUAR about it.
