Switzerland 2022 - Day 1: Grindelwald

We’ve finally made it to 2022, the year which we revenge travelled like no tomorrow. Our first post-covid overseas trip was a big one. We took the opportunity to check Switzerland off our bucket list while airfare and hotel prices were low because everyone was still afraid of dying to covid. Are you ready for the 10 part Swiss adventure? My blogging schedule is definitely not.

You know that feeling when you meet up with your friends at the airport to check in?  We felt not just butterflies, but the entire insect kingdom in our stomachs as we had not boarded a plane in 2 years. Also, this marks the first overseas trip with my dearest baobei sayang Sufian and Ivy.

Throwback to 6 hours ago when we had to do our ART test 24 hours before our arrival in Switzerland

Imagine receiving a positive test result and not being able to fly a few hours before the trip. I would have cried right then and there.

Thankfully all of us were covid free, so we celebrated with a dim sum dinner before returning home to pack our luggage.

Back at the airport, we indulged in one last Asian snack before boarding. I know i’m going to miss you, kaya roti-san.

Hey this time never take photo of other planes hor. We really took SQ not budget airlines.

Our round trip ticket was only $900+, a steal compared to the prices now.

Airplane food was as shitty as i remembered. It’s… beautiful...

一起坐飞机很开心.  一起打飞机不开心.

Breakfast didn’t fare much better but at this point we were just hoping to get some shut eye on the 11 hour flight.

The time difference meant that we would be landing early in the morning half dead.

But nonetheless, Gruezi Switzerland!

Turned heads in our usual lupsup airport attire while the thermostat reads 5 degrees.

After crossing customs and a quick change to more suitable clothing, we were off to our first stop, Grindelwald.

Purchasing the Swiss Travel Pass is essential if you plan on travelling around the entire country.

The downside? It costs a whopping $1,000 for a first class pass, which turned out to be unnecessary but useful when finding luggage space on trains.

You might be rolling your eyeballs like Reagan after hearing the price but at least the trains are always punctual and silent apart from a few Asians singing CNY songs.

A first look at Switzerland’s open fields and blue lakes blew us away.

And as the landscape turned white, we were so encapsulated by the views that we ignored the maniac talking about throwing dogs into a river and sinking them.

Swiss Mantou not taking kindly to the dog drowner on our train.

Haven’t seen such a splendid blanket of snow since our Hokkaido trip. 有感动到.

Eventually after 17 hours of travelling, we finally arrived at our airbnb in Grindelwald.

Cute. Pretty. BEAUTIFUL.

There’s a magnificent mountain right behind our home which mesmerised us everytime we left the house.

Knn the sky and clouds machiam photoshop one. Enough photos, it's time for our first meal.

Having Italian food because it’s located right beside Switzerland so it should be as legit as they come, right?

Cannot 7 pax dine in because SG haven't relax measures so we flew to CH to dine in together.

Oi why the carbonara use cream one booooo.

Pizza was fine, but i was expecting higher standards from an Italian neighbour.

However, we are here for the sights not food so it's all good.

The short walk to the town center was often delayed by snow playing...

...picture taking..

...and fools spinning around in circles.

The first Coop supermarket trip of many. Grocery shopping and cooking ourselves was a great way to reduce spending.

Lit xmas trees are gorgeous even when it's already January.

And just as we arrived back at our cosy airbnb, the first speck of snowflakes floated onto our brand new The North Face™ jackets.

While most of us took a much needed nap to recuperate from the heavy traveling, Jl and Rea battled it out in Rummikub to determine who would be on top later that night.

I got that supper time, supper time sadness. Su-su-supper time, supper time sadness.

We came well prepared with Asian cup noodles, seasonings and sauce packs to combat the repetitive ang moh cuisine.

Nothing hits the spot more than hot instant noods in 0 degrees weather. The hard part is over now that we got here, so get your bodies ready because we are getting some spy action on Day 2.

- End of Day 1 -
