Taiwan 2019 - Day 1: Kaohsiung 高雄, Lotus Pond 蓮池潭, Dragon Tiger Pagodas 龍虎塔 & Ruifeng Night Market 瑞豐夜市

Figured i would be a filial son and spend my bonus bringing my parents on an overseas trip. Since they never got to explore Taiwan properly and my dad is always watching their politicians throwing pig organs at each other on the news, it was the perfect destination (also i just wanted to eat lu rou fan).

I would also be the designated photographer for mum on this trip. Good practice for my future girlfriend.

My 2nd brother (the sexy botak) and uncle also came along on the trip, which meant we could go on road trips with rental cars.

We flew directly to Kaohsiung, one of the cities in Taiwan that i haven't been to. The airport was so alarmingly dead that i thought we accidentally flew to Krabi again.

Took their mrt which was very straightforward and easy to use. Compared to Japan & Korea, planning this trip was easy peasy titty squeezy. Itinerary for your reference:

Wonder if these empty streets are a common sight in Kaohsiung.. Mind you this was pre-covid on a Thursday afternoon. My eyes were still clamouring for the first glimpse of twmm since the plane landed.

Family trip or MSE trip, no punches were pulled during the food planning. We were going to eat well and we were going to eat a lot. 南豐魯肉飯 aka PORK HEAVEN was the one i was most looking forward to and unsurprisingly the place i picked for our first meal.

My first instinct upon seeing that beautiful whiteboard menu of vertical chinese characters was to order everything. Semo lion head rice that i've never heard before also gian order. We ended up ordering half of the menu anyway since it's a table full of Xu's.

I hereby declare this the best lu rou fan in Taiwan. Everyone please give a round of applause to this amazing bowl of goodness. Omg it is damn fucking good the fats are so soft and melty. Forget Jin Feng lu rou fan in Taipei this is my new love.

Just check out how jiggly this shit is. This pig must have been a belly dancer in its past-past life.

A great lunch deserves a sweet ending. Combined with the warm autumn afternoon, it called for some 刨冰 aka shaved ice. This auntie's stall offers so many different toppings that from far i thought she was selling cai png.

We got the classic tau huey shaved ice with red bean, doused in sugar syrup. So sweet but oh so refreshing.

After getting ourselves diagnosed with both diabetes and high cholesterol in one lunch, we returned to the airbnb to fuck our livers up with some duty free cognac and muah chee. Strange combo but it works. Everyone was tired since we had to wake up early to catch our flight so we decided to take a short 1 hour nap...

..aaaand bam it's suddenly night time smlj. Trying to get back on schedule, we cabbed over to Lotus Pond, a man made lake surrounded by plenty of temples and sculptures.

Apparently deepthroating the dragon and letting the tiger vomit you out is supposed to bring good luck but sadly it was already closed when we arrived. Nb no wonder 1 year later still no luck with girls.

Really got some 八仙过海 feels here with all the chinese mythological depictions around the lake.

Sibei chio no wonder give birth to 3 handsome sons.

Also there were no other tourists or locals around here as well. I'm starting to think we accidentally teleported to the Borderlands instead of Kaohsiung.

Still hard in my pants from that wonderful lunch, i can only hope our tze char dinner is half as good.

Thank god there is another table of customers here i was suspecting if i got scammed by the google reviews.

And this place should have been packed to the brim just from this dish alone. Such a silky omelette with huge, juicy prawns encased within.

You know this chicken has a skin care routine like Yc's just by looking at it. If Angelababy was a chicken, this would be her.

Shredded chicken rice with more of that beautiful minced spring onion and ginger paste. So much more exciting than your average white rice.

Heck, even the bittergourd tasted so good with that chunky salted egg sauce which resembles egg mayo. This was a delicious meal but we held ourselves back from ordering more dishes because of our next stop..

Ruifeng Night Market, Kaohsiung's biggest and most happening night market. I was so relieved to see that more than 10 people live in this city. Ok enough chit chat, let's go 逛 some 夜市.

Hais the days of grinding chio bus at a hot, squeezy night market.. Hell, even if give guy grind now i also heypi.

Plenty of chio bus here but my eyes were only fixated on one angel in particular.

Buy 鸡排 for mama so that mama can give papa eat her 鸡排 later.

Buy 香肠 for daddy so that daddy can give mama eat his 香肠 later.

My go to beverage at a night market, an ice cold cup of creamy papaya milk to make sure our man boobs stay firm and voluptuous.

Korkor buy 木瓜牛奶 for me so that... okay 够了.

Not to miss out on my all time favourite Taiwanese snack. This stall can throw together any combination you want without questioning if you can afford it and got license so no need to chase the vendor around like the Ximending one.

Bacon + Cheese + Egg 葱抓饼 is truly amazing. If Jay Chou's shop got sell this holy trinity combo in SG confirm won't close down. See la put what halal in the end also toh.

Missing the blissful life of having a supper feast in the apartment on overseas trips. Even though my parents bought some weird shit like that black thing which looks like marinated foreskin but that's okay, i'll just eat my angel fried chicken.

Went down to the convenience store to get some stuff at 10pm and it freaking looks like midnight. But it's been a good first day full of great food. Can the 2nd day match up to it? Will a chio bu ask me for my Line? Did my parents have sex that night? No need to wait, the answers are: Not really, No, & I don't want to know.
