Bangkok Trip 2015

Bangkok Trip 9th - 12th January 2015

Day 1

Short getaway to Bangkok for some eating / massage / shopping spree, although it's mostly the former that we did. WARNING - Lots of food ahead.

Itinerary here:

Obligatory hipster passport kiap air ticket picture. Omg i'm so 'in' and up with the times.

Had a light breakfast to warm up for the food marathon ahead. Thankfully no facepalms during check in this time too.

Ck was the main cameraman for this trip. Spent 5 mins figuring out how to off the flash. Great start.

讨厌,人家在 beauty sleep 嘛~

Well at least this is better than a picture of clouds..

There was an enormous queue at the Thailand customs that day. Many Russians and Germans. Took us a fair well to get pass and buy sim cards.

We stayed at iCheck Inn Residences Sathorn .First impression of the hotel was pretty decent. Was way too early to check in so we left our luggage and went to get some breakfast.

Can pah Dota?

Mini store selling at a slightly steeper price than the convenience stores outside.

Oh look, an ice box of toothbrushes

Swimming pool looks decent but a little shallow. Looks perfect for drunk swimming, too bad it's closed at night.

knn really take picture of everything...

Considered extending our stay for 1 day after seeing this. Thought better of it.

Cabbed to a restaurant called P'Aor famous for their tom yum goong. The most noticeable sign you're there is this 'sexy' picture of an auntie (the lady boss?) which has no link whatsoever to the food.

Super crowded as it was during lunch time.

Let's begin with the signature dish.. Extremely fragrant sweet and sour soup with big ass juicy prawns and al dente glass noodles. The best first meal of the trip one can ask for. "wouldfuckthesoupificould/10"

Joke. Was supposed to try the sliced beef version but they were sold out, tried the chicken instead. Noodles were too sweet, green in colour but nothing special, chicken taste like cookhouse. Waste of time and stomach space.

Ahhh the highlight of the meal. Basically it's the same as the tom yam goong, but with a fucking lobster inside. Also, some salmon, crab, squid, mussels and half boiled eggs. Even with all the ingredients in, the soup was a little lighter than the original.

Price is quite expensive, but the big version is share-able among 4.

Dissecting the lobster meat. All in all, this was not that worth it. The normal version is awesome enough. Decided to walk off all that tom yam to Platinum Mall, around a 15 minutes walk? Shopped for a grand total of 5 minutes and decided to hunt for a massage place instead. Funny.

First an ice cream break at Baskin Robbins

Definitely not sniping either of the auntie's butts...

Coincidentally walked pass the ultra famous Sab Sab wanton mee which we were planning to visit after our massage, but it was near their closing hours and we weren't coming back again if we missed it. So we ended up going in even though we were still half full.

Sibei satki wanton mee chef

Shop is located in one of the alleys opposite Platinum Mall. Just a short 5 mins walk away.

Singaporeans everywhere

Like 80% of the customers were Singaporeans. No joke.

It was pretty ok. Not fantastic but quite good. The fragrant bits of pork lard made it better than it was.

Wouldn't mind going back for another bowl. We were exhausted since we woke up really early to catch the flight, so we decided to head back to check in after absolutely 0 shopping. Only 大嫂 had some loot from Platinum Mall. We booked the family suite and it was the best decision of our lives. Big until can play soccer, by the time i walk to the front door from the toilet, i will feel like peeing again. That's how big it is.

Reagan filming his version of MTV cribs. Which leads us to this...

Destroyed his first take with one sentence. In my defense he was alone in the shoe corridor for a long time.

The dining table that was so crucial to us during those 4 days.

Kitchen complete with everything we need. Also, a washing machine. Pfft who washes clothes while on holidays?

Big sofa with a TV that only showed people being held hostage in France. That was about the only bad thing about the room. Seriously the tele only had 4 watchable channels and the news was the most interesting one.

Good view of an enormous temple right beside the hotel

Haha ok.. that's enough temples...

Yes we got the message Ck... Nice temples.

You finding trouble?

Wah last warning.

Random far building picture!

Some apartments nearby.

There must be like 500 photos taken from this fking suite.

Wakao master bedroom sibei far.

Wakao Reagan sibei far. Need to shout so he can hear me.

A normal bedroom

The master bedroom

Reagan's bedroom

Okok Ck and I redesigned it to make it suit him

Bonus video of Ck raving

Toilet pictures. We agoda now.

Special shoutout to the non see through toilet and bathroom doors.

Orh hor why you snipe my da sao? Next week soccer you die.

Rip cameraman Ck. Nice knowing you.

Here's a panoramic view of the place.

And one from the balcony... After nua-ing enough in our awesome room we managed to drag ourselves down for a massage. I think it may have been lapsap one because i was nude during it. Anyway, headed down to the most famous Pad Thai restaurant in Bangkok, Thip Samai.

A super long queue, hoping that it is worth the hype.

Chefs gift wrapping the pad thai in egg. See liao sibei wet.

Oh my...

Skillfully covered the pad thai perfectly... 我潮湿了!~~

Ahem back to the queue... almost there

Pretty nice interior as well. Spot 大哥and 大嫂.

They also sell an extremely expensive bottle of orange juice. Around $3, it's more expensive than the pad thai but boy is it good. The generous chunks of orange flesh swirling around in sweet, refreshing juice. Worth. Reagan also had some coconut semen smoothie thingy.

Moving on to this beautiful little baby

That flavourful pad thai beautifully enclosed in a layer of egg. The egg wasn't as good as it seemed as it was very thin, but the pad thai itself was superb. None of the pad thais i've had in Singapore so far can come close to this. Definitely the best i have had so far.

Also the big chunky prawns deserve a special mention.

The prawn juice version. The noodles are fried with the juices from prawn heads. Sweeter and wetter, these are just as good as the original.

So awesome that we dabao-ed a packet each on the spot for consumption back at the hotel.. around 4 hours later... Planning ahead. So smart.

Just down the street was this roadside stall known as Tee Yen Ta 4 selling some pork noodles.

Very spicy and a little sweet, just the right balance imo. This was surprisingly tasty despite the questionable colour.

A lighter order of pork bee hoon soup in an effort to look healthy.

A little bland, but it was alright. The bak kut was melt in your mouth good though.

二哥 replicating the food vlogger's Mark Wien's expressions. 10/10

Cabbed a short distance to Khao San for some shopping.... and more eating of course.

Ang mohs everywhere. Lots of drunk people dancing on the streets as well.

Sleepy cat perched on a public phone

7 eleven's 招财猫? Shopping wasn't that great here either. Just the same bags and shirts on repeat.

Buying a giant crepe for dessert

Hen gian steal home

Snipe of the day. A 6k mmr ang moh's back view.

Dabao-ed some side dishes to go with our pad thai, and by side dishes i mean porridge and burgers.

Setting up the first of many suppers on our dining table.

We weren't even hungry at all. The pad thai was still good even though it was cold. The pork samurai burgers from mcdonald's was a waste of time and stomach space.

The fatty pork skewers were awesome, but the pork liver was so hard when it cooled down it was like eating erasers.

Awesome congee. Could easily rival 85's chai chee porridge.

Eating, talking, drinking at 1am in our awesome and cold room. This is the life. Hit the sack not long after, as usual, the first day is the most exhausting.

Day 2

We added the hotel's complimentary breakfast for only $1. Worth. Big bro and sis in law woke up early and went down to recce. Saw the whatsapp picture bait they sent and struggled to drag myself down for breakfast. Scrambled eggs and strawberry yogurt was pretty good. Returned to the hotel to get more sleep while they went to explore the neighbourhood.... woke up to this.

So they dabao-ed this. For breakfast. Fried chicken. For breakfast. Awesome.

And it was the best fried chicken i've ever tasted. Crispy and fragrant skin, moist tender meat inside. Amazing how a roadside stall can produce something this good. The basil pork and sliced pork was great with sticky rice as well.

Thai gong eating a drumstick the way it should be done. Hen man.

It rained abit but thankfully the hotel has tuk tuk service and fetched us to the nearest BTS. Here's a picture of us on the tuk tuk... you cannot even see if it's us. Nice 1 cameraman.

Some stylo moving shots while on the tuk tuk

Oh? 不要 beo 我哦 !

Most of the pictures failed because blur blur.

Almost successful shot. We suck at taking wefies.

Tipped the driver and we marched on. Apparently we stayed pretty near their CBD district.

I was defnitely beo-ing that student

Taking the BTS to Victory Monument.

Saw Gerrard at the station too.

Just a few stops away. Taking the train was a good decision.

Wtf is that?!

Apparently some huge pokemon event was going on down there. Look at the huge mob!

And so we're back here at victory monument. And there's only 1 thing to do here...

Jiak some The Bestof Noodle Boat

So many competitors for us to vanquish that day.

Such a simple concept, tiny bowls selling at 40 cents each. So you eat many many until you song and stack them up as trophies. Wish Singapore had something like this.

A bowl of deep fried pork lard to get things going..

Pork boat noodles. Spicy, sour and delicious.

Close up of that sexy pork ball.

My preferred beef version. Robust and flavourful stock

Ordered the funky pink slime noodles again. Still as funky as before.

Our 5 man stack

nom nom nom

Also discovered this surprsingly nice kueh which i still have no idea what it is, but we finished all of them that was on our table.

We weren't trying to show off, just that the table was small and we were conserving space.

Our end result. pretty decent.

Giving Reagan a delicious look. He hazukashi neh. In the end a random couple that sat beside us managed to out eat the 6 of us. We left the place quietly and in utter disgrace.

Bought a thai milk tea right outside the boat noodles place. So sweet it tasted like diabetes.

Bought some "authentic" jerseys at the recently relocated kaka shop.

And tuk tuk-ed back to MBK just a short distance away to do some actual shopping.

Shopping mall too big pls nerf. Luckily Ck as big as the mall.

Ended up getting a big bear for someone... Not going to lie, it was embarassing walking around with a bear half popped out of the bag.

Felt a little hungry so we went to eat the famous stewed pork leg of MBK's foodcourt.

Oh god can i swim in that pot of meat and fats?

Mmmm

And here is our beautiful plate of good shit. The fats were super sinful, but super delicious.

A little bit of rice so it wouldn't feel too 腻

2nd massage in 2 days. This was legit though. Had an awesome foot, back and shoulder massage. Around the 4th or 5th floor of the shopping mall. Came out feeling like the same man but with a new body. Good stuff. Also, got xian-ed by an Israeli old woman but let's not elaborate on that...

Nice night view. Went opposite of Siam Square to revisit Som Tam Nua.

The area underwent renovation and it's easier to find now. That's me still looking xia suay.

Pedorea is always happy when a xmm is nearby

Planning stage...

The happy faces before a huge disaster.

Crispy fried chicken. Probably the only thing that did not deprove since our previous trip

Spicy stir fried pork. Still decent.

Tom yam soup. It was alright, nothing special.

Som Tam was great. At least their signature dish still tasted good.

This is such a disappointment i'm too hurt to elaborate on it...

把我的初恋还给我

Wtf is this dry piece of chewing gum. Where is my juicy pork collar. Definitely won't be returning after this visit.

Thankfully there were lots of street stalls lined up nearby to cheer us up.

Saw some familiar words...

Long queue for this, must surely be good.

Indeed it was, juicy with spicy sour sauce. Abit happier after this.

Crowded and lively streets. Why can't Singapore have this? The food poisoning cases would be totally worth it.

More pictures of the xia suay guy while we take a toilet break. Haha fking tryhard.

Still apply blur effect to look satki. The plan was to head to Talad Rot Fai, some hipster night market but no cabbies were willing to drive there so we had a change of plans and slacked around instead.

A random picture of some black black creature before we proceeded to Patpong night market. The thing beside it is some dragon i think.

BTS-ed a short distance and here we are.

Not going to lie, bringing the teddy bear to a sleazy place like this was even more embarrassing.

Shopping here was surprisingly good, apart from the occasional dildo and vibrators.

Facial break!

Living like kings as promised. After much facial cream and equipped with white faces, we went to hunt for supper.

Hit the jackpot when we found streets of food stalls. Firstly, some pad thai.

Secondly, some chicken rice.

Gotta buy some mango sticky rice for dessert.

Spotted this auntie bbq-ing meat over this makeshift bbq pit and we knew we had to get this.

Still pose like model for us. 果然是auntie 杀手

Our supper for the 2nd night

Sibei kua zhang, just how we like it

Roadside pad thai also so good...

The bbq pork from earlier. Really nice too.

Decent chicken cutlet rice. Or maybe we were just hungry.

Nice pork skewers and average fried chicken. Nothing close to the drumstick in the morning.

Can't live without my eggs, and hui's convenience store handroll

Mmm delicious half boiled eggs

Finished it off with mango sticky rice as dessert. Nice light supper before we went to bed.

Day 3

Woke up to a big big apartment with nice view. Shiok feeling!

The temple gateway that we use to recognize the alley to our hotel that we always forget

Took 2 cabs to Chatuchak Market. Used JJ Mall as a meeting point so the cabbie wouldn't drop us at opposite corners of the flea market.

Market starts right beside the mall

and it's full of foooood

Think it was noon when we arrived, not a big crowd yet. Weather was awesome as well. Sunny but windy unlike the previous time when we almost got heat strokes.

First stop is always this roasted meats stall

Juicy sio ba, even better with the chilli sauce provided + some nice prawn rolls

On the hunt for more food

Pretty good tempura, prawn big big

On a food marathon... and we spotted this kway zhap stall

Very nice! Sweet and flavourful. Got pig's blood :o

Got a big ass cup of Thai iced tea right beside.

Already half full...

Crowd starting to pick up..

Skipping the uninteresting street food

Lots of meimeis below 3k mmr, lots of Singaporeans

Ck's fav coconut ais klim

真清爽!

Looked like a good place to buy some souvenirs

The fucking head of the guy broke off when i reached home and i had to superglue it back on. Hope my colleague never finds out...

We were never going to resist this stall of deep fried pork

and char siew..

Turns out the "char siew" was actually roasted bones with char siew sauce. Quite funny. The fried pork didn't fare any better. Waste of stomach space.

Ccb very full liao, what are you doing kiaping those junk food?

Stahp.

Okie finally no more food. Some orange juice to end the food marathon.

I lied. We saw some meat skewers.

为什么?

A traditional shot of the landmark clock tower of Chatuchak

Random wefie while resting our legs

Semo english..

Saw this like some special 土产 buy back to Sg, but knn Sheng Shiong got sell..

2k mmr scrub mascot

More shopping

Coconut hand cream... yeaaa.."hand"..cream..

Ck sniping the shop assistant whom i remember to be absolutely average looking. So after eating and shopping for most of the afternoon, we realised we hadn't taken our lunch (All the previous shit we had were considered breakfast)

Not too much.. we wouldn't want to overeat now, would we?

More roasted meat because it's so damn good

More fried chicken, more prawn rolls, more sausages

Fantastic braised pork. Melt in mouth goodness for a cheap price.. Eat liao down there wet wet.

Some fish curry thingy that was very salty. Would have been good with some glutinous rice.

The orgasmic look of our face. 我们来了.. Nua-ed a lil while and went to the nearby supermarket to replenish our drinks and magnum supply.

Through a back alley to the shopping mall

Reagan doing some dance that looks like a zombie walk when captured in pictures

Super windy that evening..

Some shops that we skipped pass as we were only interested in our 3rd massage in 3 days

And so we arrived at central plaza after a 10min stroll

Nothing much interesting here, bought some seasoning for dad and they bought their instant noodles. Massages here didn't look that worth it so we headed to our dinner place @ Sukhumvit Soi 38 to look for a massage(not lapsap)

Most of the massage parlors looked really sleazy, but we finally found one that looked legit, and thankfully it was.

You know why i said thankfully.. This one give special sibei gao wei.. Just saying..

Really friendly and solid massage though. There was a ripping sound in the middle of the session and i thought it was my underwear, turns out it could be the auntie's one that ripped :O

Back to the soi 38, which is an alley full of awesome street food!

So much food... and we weren't even hungry thanks to that "lunch"

Some kind of zhi char stall

Braised fish maw, pretty funky but not bad.. bonus points for the chunky pigs' blood

Stir fried fish maw. Even funkier than the braised counterpart. Not really to our liking.

Average wanton mee. Thai wanton mee all same same no taste need to spam fish sauce

We were tipped off by the cab driver of this "best pad thai in the world" stall thanks to my 2nd bro's expert proficiency in Thai.

It's hidden in a small alley right next to the entrance, near a mango sticky rice stall

Decent tom yam soup to kick start our appetite

Oh god this really is the best pad thai i've ever tasted. So nicely stir fried with an eggy fragrance. 10/10 would make love to this plate of noodles.

Also note the generous servings of real crabmeat on top. So fucking good.

Looks fucking good but it's actually tasteless. I think the chef forgot to season it.

Curry crabmeat eggy veggy thingy. Tastes like maggie mee seasoning.

We heard that the famous mango sticky rice stall here was run by 2 sisters, but there were 2 stalls with 2 women... So..check their ic?

Eventually we just gambled on this and it was good, although expensive. The crunchy bits of pimples went really well with the sweet sticky rice.

Went a few streets down to Sukhumvit Soi 11, where our first hotel was for some street shopping.

This place is well known for cheap clothings, accessories, sex toys and occasional random guy offering you a prostitute as above.

Actually a pretty darn boring place. The African prostitutes were interesting though.

Discovered a little Egypt place by accident

In the end, it was boring so we decided to dabao some supper back to the hotel and nua our last night away.

Last night still so 过分..

That godlike pad thai... cold but still as awesome

Awesome braised pork. The thais know how to make perfect, melt in your mouth pork

Not as good as the Taiwan version, but not bad.

Ck's aftermeal favourite

Our liquids to wash it down

A group selfie before we feast. But this detects smiles and takes pictures automatically, so we had to time our smile together.

Ck blur as always.

And again.

And again. But not to fret...

With the power of technology and photoshop skills, i have managed to unblur Ck. You're welcome.

Finally, a proper group photo.

Remember to brush your teeth before you sleep, chidlren. Magnum was our daily toothbrushes, eat one in the morning, one before we sleep. Good times.

And so ends our final night chilling at the hotel, with a full belly and great company. Cheers!

Day 4

Tragically the street food was closed on Monday morning and we didn't get a chance to taste the best fried chicken again..

So we had to make do with convenience store food.

The freshly made bentos were surprisingly good. These riceballs were kind of burden though.

A quiet and sad last meal, complete with another magnum for everyone..

Requested the hotel for airport transfer

The "moon" that we see from our hotel

Random pictures of the airport from Ck coming up..

ok.

Snipe my da sao again?

ok

ok

ok.

Dejected faces on the plane back.. In the 4 days we lived and ate like kings. Had a good rest and chill vacation, no clubbing or anything like that. Slept till song song before we headed out each day. Going overseas with my brothers is always a food marathon though, we shouldn't do it too often... Surprised that Ck and Rea keeping up with our estimated 6 meals per day. Hope Aimei had a great time too. Good job boys! Recharged and ready to tackle the cases at work.

Ending off with a bonus picture of me licking Reagan while he's asleep. Bye Bangkok!

- End of Bangkok 2015 trip -
